There’s something rising out of the red dirt in Mzimba, Malawi.
Brick by brick, a resource center is taking shape in the center of town — just a few meters from the main road — intentionally placed where anyone can access it.
What was once uneven quarry ground is becoming a foundation for something lasting.
When we stood there, we didn’t just see walls going up.
We saw futures.
The Dream That Sparked It
When we visited Malawi, we sat with students in the shade and asked them about their dreams.
They didn’t hesitate.
“I want to be a doctor.”
“An engineer.”
“A professional soccer player.”
Big dreams. Brave dreams.
But here’s what struck us: some of these same students — even with sponsorship support — were still struggling in school.
They had help.
But they didn’t yet have access.
No quiet study space.
No consistent tutoring.
No library.
Limited technology.
A faithful elementary teacher in Noble County — who sponsors children there — felt the weight of that gap. Sponsorship was changing lives, yes. But something was still missing.
What if there were a place right in the heart of the community dedicated to tutoring, resources, and deeper support?
Her burden became a vision.
And that vision is now becoming a building.
What the Shine Bright Resource Center Will Be
This isn’t just a structure.
It will be:
• A tutoring and study center
• A library and computer lab
• A preschool classroom
• A music and learning room
• A playground
• A basketball court
• A soccer area (because the kids truly love soccer)
• A place where faith and education meet through Bible studies and films
Yes, it’s education.
But it’s also dignity.
Joy.
Community.
Belonging.
It’s a place where children across the community won’t just receive help — they’ll be strengthened.
From Scarred Ground to Sacred Purpose
In 2024, finding the right property felt like a miracle.
We originally had land south of town. But we kept praying for something central — somewhere visible and accessible. Somewhere children could walk to safely.
And God provided.
Ironically, the land had been used as a stone and sand quarry. It was uneven. Layered. Scarred.
But looking back, it feels symbolic.
God so often builds on places others have worn down.
He restores what looks used up.
He raises foundations where others saw rubble.
Now that once-quarried ground is holding pillars that stretch meters into the earth — strong enough to carry the weight of generations.
Isaiah 58:12 says:
“Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and raise up the age-old foundations… you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets With Dwellings.”
That verse has carried this project from the beginning.
Why We Named It “Shine Bright”
We named it the Shine Bright Resource Center because we believe light changes everything.
John 1:9 reminds us:
“The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.”
Our prayer is that light shines from this place — not just inside its walls, but outward.
Into homes.
Into families.
Into futures.
We see tutoring sessions and computer classes.
We see movie nights and Vacation Bible School.
We see trade training and community gatherings.
We see young leaders rising.
And maybe — just maybe — one of those children who once studied from faded paint on a concrete wall will stand in that building and step into a future none of us can fully imagine yet.
Where We Stand
Transparency builds trust.
The projected total cost is $140,000.
To date, $93,662 has been raised.
Because of a favorable exchange rate secured through the bank, nearly $20,000 was saved from the original projection — a gift we don’t take lightly.
That leaves just over $46,000 remaining to complete the structure.
Alone, that number feels large.
Shared, it becomes possible.
It could look like:
• 46 people giving $1,000
• 92 people giving $500
• 460 people giving $100
Access is built one decision at a time.
The Day the Doors Open
We keep picturing it.
Desks filled.
Books on shelves.
Computers humming.
Children laughing.
Children who have always had the drive — but not always the resources.
Psalm 127:1 reminds us:
“Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.”
We know this isn’t just about construction.
It’s about what happens inside.
Wisdom formed.
Confidence built.
Faith nurtured.
Potential unlocked.
A Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the children who walk dusty roads with determination.
Thank You for a community willing to build something lasting.
Establish the work of their hands.
Bless this space with light, learning, and hope.
Bless the hands of everyone who contributed.
Let it reflect Your heart for children and for growth.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
Access should never determine potential.
If you feel led to help complete this final stretch, we would be honored to have you stand with us in finishing what God has begun. Whether through giving, sharing, or praying — you are part of this story.
To give toward the Shine Bright Resource Center, visit Giving Basics and write “Resource Center” in the memo line so we can direct your gift appropriately.
And something faithful is rising from the red dirt.
