Idaho: Exploring Boise

We visited Boise in May and it was so beautiful with all the flowers and colorful trees in full bloom. I was surprised how much I liked Boise, being that I’m not a big city type of person.

Where to Stay

Because we were so last minute and wanted to stay outside the city, we opted for the quaint town of Homedale, Idaho. We stayed at the county park- Riverside Park Campground.

Homedale is a very small town, we walked the whole town from our campground, but it did offer a few amenities such as homemade ice cream at Murray's Ice cream and Treats, coffee, Albertsons, and even hosted a rodeo while we were there. Homedale is about 45 minutes West of Boise.

Riverside Park Campground is right on the Snake River. My son was able to fish the river from the campground, so that was a big plus.

Fifth Wheel Fix

On this leg of our journey we found that our electric wire wore through. The shore power 50 AMP service line was not properly shielded when it went through the frame. We had to go into Boise to get the parts we needed. My favorite handy man was able to splice in a 50 AMP dryer cord that also went through an electrical conduit so we wouldn't have a future problem. God saved us from what could have been a fire, we are so grateful we caught it in time.

RV Tip

Always plug in to the service pedestal with breakers off. Once the plugs are secure, turn the breaker on. Listen, smell, and watch for smoke, flames, and sparks. As you drive down the highway things break and move.

What to do in Boise, ID

Our Aunt and Uncle, who live in Twin Falls, met us in Boise. At first we were planning on meeting at Zoo Boise in order to walk the Boise River Greenbelt, but it was cold and rainy so we met at Top Golf instead, where they generously treated us to memberships, games, and lunch.

We had so much fun! My daughter, who had never wanted to try golfing, loved it and did great with her great-uncle’s coaching. If you have never tried Top Golf before, I highly recommend it for a date night, family fun, or a special occasion.

If you are in Boise on a Saturday, don't miss out on The Boise Farmers Market. We all tried ostrich for the first time, did you know that ostrich is a red meat? It was pretty tasty.

Some places we wanted to go, but didn’t have time to check out were the Idaho State Capitol Building, Old Idaho Penitentiary, and Roaring Springs Waterpark. I guess we will just have to make another visit!.

I can’t forget to mention that while we were in the area, we also visited Cabela's. The boys drooled their way around the store while the girls looked at the African Safari exhibit.

Here, our Aunt told us about her mission trip to Malawi, Africa where they brought supplies to McKallie's Home of Future and Hope. She expressed how that experience changed her life.

God Doesn't Work in Coincidences

Missionary work has always been on my heart, but recently has been on our family’s heart too. Driving between Homedale and Boise, we passed through the city of Nampa. Nampa is where the non-profit organization of Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) is located. We have been in touch with a lady from that organization.

She explained to us that they have a campground that we could stay at if we volunteer 30 hours a week, and we could also take a tour of their facility. She also prayed that we would have "God appointed conversations and interactions." I kid you not, the next day we randomly got a new neigbor at our camp spot in Lassen Volcanic National Park, who is a MAF advocate.

Bible Verse of the Day

Ephesians 1:11

"In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will..."

Today I have a Prayer Request

I ask for guidance and patience as we await news regarding Scott's pursuit of his Master's in Christian Ministry at GCU. May God provide clarity with MAF, whether it's to give or serve. I also request prayers for my potential return to school and for our homeschool year, now including a HIGH SCHOOLER with complicated transcripts and a JUNIOR HIGH BOY, enough said. Please pray that God will guide our path, give us clarity, and that we will make decisions that are in line with God's will.

* Update: Scott has started his MDIV program through a different school, I am pursuing a degree at GCU, we have my daughter's transcripts figured out, and my son is thriving. God is so good!

* I'd be THRILLED to hear from you. Please feel free to leave a comment or prayer request below.

  1. I will be praying for you, Scott and the kids. I know that god has a plan for your family and sometimes we all have to have patience to see what gods plans are.
