A Day in Spokane, WA: What to Do, Where to Stay, and a Faith Devotional

What to Expect When Visiting Spokane, WA

Spokane, the host city of Hoopfest and the second-largest city in Washington, blends a small-town feel with the amenities of a larger urban area.

What struck me most were its charming older neighborhoods, beautiful architecture, and the natural beauty that runs straight through the heart of the city along the river.

Of course, Spokane—like many cities today—carries its share of challenges. We noticed the visible homelessness, drug use, and vandalism, which echoed what we’ve seen in several larger cities we’ve visited.

Even so, many locals love calling Spokane home, and nearly every visitor we met had something positive to say about the place.

Best Places to Stay Near Spokane, WA

We stayed at FairChild Air Force Base, and it was exactly what we needed: quiet, clean, and peaceful. It’s first-come, first-served, and we pulled in to find the very last spot open.

We were grateful—God really does provide in the small details.

If you’re not military-affiliated or want to stay closer to Spokane itself, I’d recommend Liberty Lake. It’s a beautiful area and feels like a community all its own. Check out my post on Liberty Lake here.

Top Things to Do in Spokane in One Day

Manito Park

This was easily my favorite spot in Spokane. The gardens are stunning, the walking paths peaceful, and the open green spaces perfect for letting kids run free. There’s even ice cream. Bring your camera—there are photo ops everywhere.

Riverfront Park

After Manito Park, head to Riverfront. The kids can play at the Ice Age Floods Playground, and from there you can stroll into downtown along the river path. The Sky Ride would be especially beautiful at sunset, and the Carousel is perfect for younger children.

Spokane Restaurants and Local Food Scene

We didn’t get a chance to dive into Spokane’s growing food scene this trip, but I found a great article that might point fellow food-lovers in the right direction.

Why We Recommend Camp Chevrolet  in Spokane

I don’t usually talk about car dealerships in travel posts, but Camp Chevrolet truly stood out.

Their customer service was excellent—thorough, timely, honest, and even joyful. They sent a video walkthrough of their work, checked all the essentials, and communicated clearly the entire time.

In a time when customer service often feels rushed or indifferent, this was refreshing.

Faith Reflection for the Road

As we traveled, I kept coming back to a simple truth: whatever we do, whether it feels exciting or ordinary, can be offered to God with a grateful heart.

Because Christ reigns, work is worship.

Devotional Thought from Colossians 3:23

Colossians 3:23

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.”

Because God’s kingdom is already present, every task becomes an act of worship. When we approach our work with joy and intention, His presence shows up in the ordinary.

Where is God inviting you to shift from obligation to worship today?

Prayer

Lord, strengthen our hearts for the work in front of us today.

Help us serve with joy, gratitude, and purpose—

not for recognition, but because we belong to You.

Let Your presence shape our attitudes, renew our energy,

and make even simple tasks expressions of love.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
