The Kingdom Doesn’t Wait for Clear Skies

When the Water Rises in Mzimba

floods in Africa

It falls on red soil and fragile roads.

It swells small streams into dangerous crossings.

It delays harvest schedules.

It slows construction.

The flooding has already taken lives — including a local news reporter lost while crossing a swollen stream after work.

The rain keeps falling.

The Foundation of the Resource Center: Three Meters Deep

And still, the foundation stands.

Construction of the Resource Center

The foundation of the Resource Center has been poured:

Three meters deep.

Concrete set.

Cement blocks are ready for the next stage.

Built on a Rock

Jesus never promised the rain would stop.

He promised the house built on rock would stand.

Storms test what is shallow.

They reveal what is anchored deep.

I’ve felt that this season, when storms exposed where my trust needed to take deeper root in God.

Progress in the Rain

Construction has slowed.

Yet kitchens are nearly complete.

Harvest schedules have shifted.

Yet maize is progressing.

Rain has fallen steadily.

Yet Likuni phala is being processed and delivered.

It grows in rain.

It grows in delay.

It grows when no one is watching.

The Father Who Sees

In Matthew 6, Jesus redirected attention away from public recognition and toward something quieter:

“Your Father who sees in secret.”

In its first-century context, He confronted religious performance — devotion done to be noticed. Instead, He formed a people anchored in hidden obedience. Systems would shake. Visibility would fade. But the Father would still see.

Rain rarely draws crowds. It drives them indoors. It makes progress harder to measure. It slows everything down.

Scripture reminds us that faithfulness is measured by obedience to the One who sees what others cannot.

Measured Differently

Ministry in Malawi this month may not trend. But heaven measures differently.

God sees the concrete curing slowly beneath heavy skies.

He sees the soil holding seed through oversaturation.

He sees the meals prepared for children.

He sees the leadership being strengthened.

He sees the quiet faithfulness that will never trend.

And He sees our ordinary faithfulness too.

Faithfulness at Home

Taken On The Missions Trip Last April

Most of us are not pouring foundations in Africa.

We are answering emails.

Washing dishes.

Driving carpools.

Managing tight budgets.

Showing up to work when we’re tired.

Supporting family behind the scenes.

Continuing when progress feels slow.

Faithfulness rarely feels dramatic.

It feels repetitive.
It feels unseen.
It feels small — but not insignificant.

The quiet faithfulness in our everyday lives connects to quiet faithfulness across the world. The prayers, support, and steady generosity of ordinary people become meals served, classrooms strengthened, and opportunities created. And sometimes, that steady obedience shows up in something as simple and beautiful as a child’s smile.

Sometimes faithfulness feels like effort without applause — but in God’s Kingdom, unseen obedience is never wasted.

What the Rain Cannot Do

The Kingdom of God is built by people who keep showing up when the rain doesn’t stop.

The rain may slow the work.

It may muddy the roads.

It may test the foundation.

But it cannot wash away what God has anchored deep.

Whether in Malawi’s rainy season or in our everyday routines, the invitation is the same:

Remain faithful.

Not for recognition.

Not for affirmation.

But because the Father sees.

The rain may continue.

The Kingdom continues with it.

God’s work is not paused by difficulty — it is often formed within it.

A Prayer for Steady Faithfulness

Double Rainbow in Africa
Double Rainbow in Mzimba

Heavenly Father,

You are the One who sees in secret. You measure differently than we do. Strengthen our brothers and sisters in Malawi as they build, harvest, teach, and lead through difficult weather and heavy loss.

Protect them in travel. Provide wisdom in leadership decisions. Sustain the children and families who depend on this work.

And steady our own hearts. When progress feels slow and the work feels small, remind us that hidden obedience matters. Teach us to seek Your Kingdom first and trust that You see what others do not.

Help us remain faithful  in the rain, in the waiting, and in the quiet places where only You see.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
