Arizona: Exploring Prescott- One of our favorite places to visit

Prescott is a city deep rooted in both mine and Scott's family history. We both still have family living in the area, and we love when we get the opportunity to visit. This time we visited because Scott had the honor of being in his cousin's wedding. We got to spend time with my in-laws and nephews, which is always fun. My parents and grandparents also drove up in order to visit and stay at an Airbnb together, it was a really special time.

Where to stay in Prescott, AZ

We stayed at Point of Rocks Campground. We really enjoyed our stay here with full hookups, great views, and a convenient location.

We also stayed at
this house, Groom Creek Lodge. This cabin was beautifully situated in the mountains. It was clean and spacious with huge windows to watch all the deer. We even saw a deer hanging out in the driveway as we pulled in.

What to do in Prescott, AZ

While staying in the Granite Dells, we bouldered and hiked the Flume Canyon Trailhead to Watson Dam. It was a pretty hike, with quite a bit of bouldering. We were there in August, so we hiked the trail early in the morning, the day of the wedding.

If you like to hike, try one of the trails at Goldwater Lake. This is a beautiful area up in the mountains. It offers some relief from the heat, but can still be hot so make sure to pack plenty of water and sunscreen.

The wedding was held at the Windmill House in Chino Valley. This proved to be a beautiful venue for a beautiful wedding, for an even more beautiful couple.

If you like to fish, take advantage of Watson Lake and Goldwater Lake. My daughter was adamant about catching a fish…she caught the tiniest bait fish, but hey a fish is a fish is a fish.

Don’t forget to check out Whiskey Row in Downtown Prescott, full of history, hotels, bars, and shops. The Historic Prescott Courthouse Square is a beautiful area with a green space to relax and people watch.

If you have high-schoolers interested in aviation check out Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. This is Scott’s alma mater. His Aunt also worked here and his cousin runs the barbershop on campus, Erau Hairport.

Where to Eat in Prescott AZ

For the rehearsal dinner, our family had Up in Smoke Bar-B-Que deliver. Everything from their brisket, to charro beans was delicious. If you like BBQ, I would definitely recommend this joint in Chino Valley.

If you like Italian check out Rosa's Pizzaria. I especially like their Alfredo. Our cousins had Rosa’s cater their wedding, and we all really liked it, give it a try when you are in the area.

The wedding was a success and we had a great time visiting with everyone. We love when we get to see and spend time with our Arizona family. How blessed we are to have so many people in our corner.

We hit up the Costco in Prescott before the Airbnb, as we like to grill out and because the house had a gigantic dining table. We had a great time visiting with my parents and grandparents and my aunt and uncle who stopped by to visit. I was so happy to see them as it had been a few years. I feel so fortunate that my kids have such a great relationship with all their grandparents AND their great- grandparents. What a unique and special bond to share and memories to have.

A neighbor at a campground in Washington once told Scott “ You my friend are rich.” Scott replied, “What are you talking about? I’m not rich.” The older gentleman then pointed to me and the kids and stated, “look again, you are rich.” That really resonated with Scott.

My grandpa said something to the same effect as we were leaving the Airbnb. To the world we may not have much, but seeing four generations under one roof, he was overwhelmed with gratitude, as am I. We truly are rich.

Bible Verse of the Day

Ephesians 2:19 NLT

So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens along with God’s holy people. You are members of God’s family.

Reflection

  • I realize I am in a unique position to have such great relationships with our entire family including a close bond all the way to the fourth generation.

  • Take heart if you don’t have a great earthly family because as soon as you admit that you are a person full of sin and in need of a savior, and as soon as you accept Jesus as your savior in order to have a personal relationship with God, you are adopted as God’s son or daughter. You are made perfect in your Heavenly Father’s eyes. There is nothing God wouldn’t do for you, guilt and shame will no longer have a hold on you. Angels sing over you and protect you. You now have a perfect Father and a multitude of brothers and sisters.

Prayer

God is so good for welcoming us into His family with open arms, and with a huge celebration. How blessed we are to be wanted so deeply, cared for so intricately, and loved so purely! My prayer is that we will all see that we have an eternal family and show love to one another as brothers and sisters in Christ. I pray for our friends and family who don’t believe yet to one day see and be set free from the heartache of this world and experience true peace and contentment that only the creator of us can bring.
